    If you live in British Columbia and want to fix up your basement or crawlspace, both the provincial and federal governments offer monetary incentives. Grants and rebates are made available for these specific home improvement projects.

    R Value? It shows a material's thermal resistance.

    Insulation uses R Value. A higher number means better insulation. It depends on thickness and what it’s made of.

    Contractor criteria for insulation?

    You’ll need a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member for provincial insulation rebates. You can find the list to check this.

    What's the $2,000 Bonus Offer about?

    CleanBC is providing a monetary incentive ranging from $750 to $2,000 for the completion of three or more upgrades that qualify for a rebate on your residential property. Additionally, there is a separate offer of $300 available for the completion of two eligible upgrades.

    To qualify for the Home Energy Improvement Bonus, it is necessary to schedule an EnerGuide home assessment by a certified energy advisor. It is essential to book the evaluation before commencing any renovations in order to meet the eligibility criteria.

    Basements and Crawlspaces Greener Homes Grant

    The Canadian government has established the Greener Homes Grant with the objective of assisting individuals in financing their basement and crawlspace renovations.

    Is it ok if my crawlspace isn't heated?

    Yes, even unheated crawlspaces qualify.

    Am I allowed to install the insulation myself?

    Of course, yes. You can do it. Federal grants will cover your insulation costs. Save all your receipts. But for provincial rebates, you need a contractor on the program.

    Are­ there provincial rebates too?

    Yes, but the insulation must be installed by a registered contractor.

    $40,000 Interest-Free Greener Homes Loan

    The Government of Canada is offering interest-free loans of up to $40,000 to assist homeowners in covering the expenses associated with retrofits. These loans can be accessed by individuals and are specially designed to provide financial support for retrofit costs.

    The Canada Greener Homes Loan operates in conjunction with the Greener Homes Grant initiative.

    Homeowners have the option to choose a loan with a repayment term of 10 years, without any interest. This loan can be used for making retrofits such as insulation, heat pumps, solar panels, and other similar improvements.
